Sun - 1A6A7271

Mixed media (geodesic sphere, steel, optical fibre, PET bottles, light)

Sun is built upon the superstructure of a geodesic sphere.  The work represents in part Munro’s natural development in processes, materials and structure stemming from and furthering his interest in geodesic structures (already seen in his works Beacon and Star Turn).

For Munro working with fibre optics has resulted in numerous visual experimentations of form, physical space and feeling.  Sun is an amalgam of all three.

The first iteration of the work was created to sit over the Infinity Pool at Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens in Rockford Illinois, suspended as if rising in the day and setting at night.
