Mixed media (acrylic diffuser, powder-coated mild steel, optical fibre, LED light source)
Rapunzel’s Tower is a sculptural piece with an architectural focus. Inspired by a natural progression of various ideas and designs that I was experimenting with, Rapunzel’s Tower comprises 195 interlocking acrylic 60mm x 3mm horizontal and vertical circles. Each horizontal module is lit by a 1mm fibre optic cable. The light is located in the base. The title came to me after creating the piece; the organic feel of the free-flowing fibre optic strands reminded me of hair and the modular matrix of the whole construction is a Lilliputian tower.
