Coming across a simple glass lens in my studio one day I was struck by its resemblance to an owl’s eye. From childhood I was fascinated by the ‘parliament’ of owls in the fourth element of C. S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, The Silver Chair. Parliament of Owls was first created for an exhibition at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire; the ‘owls’ sit high up on their perches and 36 pairs of wide, blinking eyes stare out across the gardens.
