Hive imagines the bell tower at Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina, as a giant, man‐made bee hive. Shrouded by foliage, the tower’s ancient hexagon‐shaped filigree lattice echoes my interest in modular matrixes that can be used to create graphic, two‐dimensional images. Each hexagon contains a single illuminated, painted bee. These bees are surrounded by a chorus of buzzing and chiming bells, suggesting the possibility of calling in the bees at dusk.
