Mixed media (optical fibre, cylindrical diffusers, LED light source)
It is always a privilege to be asked to create light installations. Commissions add an extra layer of complexity in that one is given the challenge to capture an essence of something that is often illusive. Sometimes the solution can take weeks to find however in the case of Spear Street Capital, the answer was to be found immediately. Over the years I have taught myself not to overcomplicate work and also listen carefully to gut instinct. In this case the solution was in the name and literally staring at me in the face! In due course after some research I was sure of my creative direction. Architectural abstractions of towers of light spearing the heavens came to mind.
The SSC1 draws on materials that reflect light and in this case I have chosen aluminium and optical fibre to create an elegant light sculpture (made of three parts). As the artwork suspends over the lobby space, the viewer will be drawn to the sculptural forms from ground level and above.
