Mixed media (optical fibre, stainless steel, light source, audio)
My inspiration for this work is the haunting orchestral composition ‘Cantus Arcticus’ by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, which I heard for the first time quite by chance returning from Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire where I had been invited to exhibit. For me, the sounds of arctic birdsong interwoven with Rautavaara’s orchestral score created a visual soundscape: these shimmering curtains of light suggest the Aurora Borealis interspersed with the silhouettes of circling birds.
