Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, is famous for its skilfully cultivated Victoria amazonica lilies. These were the catalyst behind the creation of giant waterlilies made out of CDs. Waterlilies draws inspiration from my childhood memory of a sea of white lilies signifying the border between two worlds in C. S. Lewis’s novel The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Later, as an art student, I came across the paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe, including Sky Above Clouds IV, that shows a clear blue sky populated by abstracted clouds that receded from the bottom to the top edge of the canvas.
