Oreum

Mixed Media (optical fibre, acrylic and light)

The inspiration for Oreum stems from Munro’s original work Field of Light and recognizes how the environment impacts an installation which is defined by and defines the space in which it exists.

The artwork was developed after Munro spent a period of time exploring Jeju Island (South Korea) in 2015 and the installation is named for the large mounds that scatter the island, known locally as Oreum.

Oreum differs from Field of Light in it’s individual form, replacing the glass sphere with acrylic turbines, a symbolic reference to the harsh wind that sweeps across the Jeju landscape.
